Publishing FAQ

💬 FAQ — Publishing with Lobotomy Press

Q: What kinds of writing do you work with?
Anything that hits where it hurts, in the best way. I specialize in emotionally heavy, intimate, and unconventional work: poetry, strange love stories, surreal prose, or anything that doesn’t quite fit the mold. If your project has heart (or heartbreak), it’ll feel at home here.

Q: Do I need a finished manuscript before reaching out?
Not at all. You can come to me mid-chaos, with half a draft, a few poems, or a messy Google Doc. I’ll meet you wherever your project currently lives and help shape it into something whole.

Q: How much do your services cost?
Every project is unique, so I offer free estimates based on a sample of your work. You’ll get a clear, personalized quote and timeline before committing - no hidden fees, no pressure.

Q: What’s included in the free estimate?
A review of up to 5 sample pages, a clear explanation of how I can help, and a transparent quote. You can ask questions, get feedback, or simply feel things out before deciding to move forward.

Q: Will you change my writing style or voice?
Never. My editing approach is all about refinement, not rewriting. Your voice stays yours, I just help it sound its best on the page.

Q: What formats do you deliver?
Depending on your needs:
🖋️ Editing: Word docs with tracked changes and a clean version.
🧾 Formatting: Print-ready PDFs for KDP or other POD services, and EPUBs for eBooks.
🎨 Design: High-resolution cover files, graphics, and illustrations ready for upload.

Q: Do you only work with self-publishing authors?
Mostly, yes, but “self-publishing” here doesn’t mean “alone.” I help indie authors navigate everything from editing to prepress, so you can publish confidently under your own name or through Lobotomy Press.

Q: Can you help with ISBNs, barcodes, and uploads?
Yes. I offer full guidance for ISBN registration, barcode setup, and publishing platform uploads (especially for KDP). If you get stuck, I’ll walk you through it.

Q: Do you offer design and illustration too?
Absolutely. From cover art to interior illustrations and custom typography, I can handle the full visual side of your book. I especially love projects that blur the line between text and art.

Q: How long does the process take?
It depends on your project’s length and complexity. Once I’ve seen your sample, you’ll get a timeline with clear milestones. Most projects move from first edit to final files within a few weeks to a few months.

Q: How do I get started?
Easy! Send a message through the contact form or email me directly. Tell me a bit about your book and what kind of help you’re looking for. You’ll get a thoughtful, honest reply and a free sample review to get things rolling.
